Isleta Casino and Resort reopens after 3-month COVID shutdown

February 8, 2021

The Isleta Casino and Resort reopened Wednesday after shutting down last Nov. 16th for the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the second time this year that Isleta shut down for the pandemic. Early last year the casino shut down in March and did not reopen until June 15.

New safety procedures and protocols are now in effect. The new operating hours are limited to 9 am to 12:30 am daily. All casino employees were tested before reopening and will be offered COVID vaccinations when available.

To enter a 'proper mask' must be worn by all guests and employee. Gaiters and bandanas are not allowed. Masks with vents or valves are also not allowed. An outside vending machine will provide a mask if needed.

The gaming floor will maintain a limited capacity and bingo sessions will be limited to 128 players. All dining venues have reduced seating capacities.

The Isleta Casino is the first casino in Albuquerque to reopen. Other casinos that remain closed in the area are The Palace West Casino, which closed in March, Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel, which closed Nov. 14, and the Route 66 Casino Express, which closed Oct. 25.

Isleta Resort & Casino opens sportsbook

August 18, 2019

On Monday the Isleta Resort & Casino in Albuquerque opened its sportsbook and began taking bets on professional sports and on the University of New Mexico Lobos and the New Mexico State University Aggies. Sports betting is open every day 8 am to 1 pm.

The Isleta sportsbook is operating in a temporary location on the casino floor while construction continues on its new home near the food court.

Betting on in-state college teams is a major difference between Isleta Casino and most sports wagering across the nation. Most states have prohibited it by state laws. Santa Ana Star Casino, the other Albuquerque casino, does not accept bets on New Mexico college teams.

Isleta Resort & Casino will open food court in August

May 7, 2018

Isleta Resort & Casino is preparing to open a new food court this summer. It will feature two new eateries to the casino, Fatburger and Panda Express, along with Chili Ristra New Mexican cuisine, and Chill Coffee & Ice Cream Shop.

Isleta Resort & Casino will be the first New Mexico casino with a food court. Fatburger will be the first in the state and Panda Express will be the first inside a NM casino.

The food court is part of the ongoing $40 million renovation that began in 2017. Since then Isleta has opened new bingo and poker rooms, quadrupled the space in the Triple Sevens sports and dance bar, opened the entertainment showroom and introduced a new non-smoking gaming area.

Isleta Resort and Casino will add sports betting

April 24, 2019

Isleta Resort & Casino issued a press release yesterday announcing plans to open a sportsbook sometime this summer. Isleta is partnering with USBookmaking to provide the wagering platform.

The announcement included this statement from Isleta Resort & Casino CEO Harold Baugus:

'We're very excited to be answering the requests of our guests to bring sports gambling to New Mexico. We look forward to unveiling all of the exciting possibilities to our patrons.'

Isleta will be the third New Mexico casino to offer sports betting. The first was Santa ana Star Casino last October followed by Buffalo Thunder Casino in March.

Isleta Casino expands bingo and poker rooms

July 13, 2018

The new poker and bingo room projects have been completed at Isleta Resort & Casino. The grand openings have been scheduled to celebrate the new areas.

On Thursday the new bingo room opened. Up to 400 guests can attend each session in the new area. Food service is available to players in the room.

The celebration will continue on the evening session on Saturday. Two special sessions will be held where $10,000 will be given away. August 11 there will be a drawing for a 2018 Chevy Camaro.

Also on Thursday a ceremony was held for the ribbon cutting to reopen the poker room. Special gaming promotions will be available to players until Sunday. Special drawings will be held during this time for players that are participating in live games or tournaments.

On July 27 at 10 p.m. a celebration will be held for the newly renovated Triple Sevens. One change is the dance floor has been enlarged. Drink specials and live music will be available during the event.

A renovation has also happened at the Isleta Showroom. New seating has been added. 400 guests will be able to attend shows at the venue. A new media system and sound system has been added. The stage for performers is larger. The date for the opening has not been announced.

The renovation projects for the casino have totaled $40 million.

The Isleta Resort & Casino is owned by the Pueblo of Isleta.

The Sandia Casino opened in the 1994 and was the first Indian casino in New Mexico. In 2005 it added a hotel and other amenities to become a destination resort.

In January 2014 the Sandia Resort & Casino began a year-long expansion project of its facilities. The expansion will include a parking garage that will be four stories tall, a golf pavilion, and a new spa. The new parking garage will be built on the northern area of the property. The Green Reed Spa will be moved from its present location near the casino floor to a new location near the golf course.

Sandia Resort is adding 72,000 sq-ft expansion

August 23, 2019

The Albuquerque Journal reports that a massive expansion project may soon be announced at Sandia Resort & Casino. Preliminary information has come from a representative of the architect firm, Studio Southwest Architects, and from website of Jaynes Corp., the general contractor. There is no confirmation yet from Sandia management.

The new construction project will add a 72,000 square-foot, 3-level structure onto the southeastern edge of the casino.

FIRST FLOOR FEATURES
The first level will add 22,000 square feet to the casino gaming space with more high-stakes slots area. There will also be a new deli, new restrooms and a new bar to serve the poker room.

SECOND FLOOR FEATURES
Half of the second level is dedicated to the building's electrical and mechanical systems. The other half is reserved for future expansion.

THIRD FLOOR FEATURES
A sports bar and restaurant will cover the entire 25,000-square-foot third floor. It includes a 30-foot diameter sports bar, seating, widescreen televisions, outside decking and indoor golf simulators. The enire floor will be non-smoking and designed as family friendly.
